Red roan horses are roan horses that have a chestnut or sorrel (which is reddish brown in color) base coat. The base coat is intermixed with white hairs throughout the coat making the horse a light reddish color. Sometimes red roan horses are called strawberry roans if they appear especially reddish in color.
