I am in search of a private boarding facility in the South Portland area. My 3 yr mare and I are currently spending the winter in Florida in our apprenticeship with Caroline Rider, Tao of Horsemanship. We will be returning to Maine April/May and I am seeking a home away from home for my girl. I prefer her in my back yard, but this is where we need to be now.
We practice an intuitive approach to horsemanship, and would ideally like a similar environment.... (read more) Busy eventing, traditional training barns would not be a great fit for us. Ideal facility would look like a more laid back, mature, homey feeling where horses are family members and physical/mental health and well being are a priority.
My mare is currently rehabing from sidebone and out of training. Her needs are a stall, preferably with an attached paddock. Eventually if she is able, a grass turn out option. She is a Friesian/Andalusian, large, smart, sensitive, and sweet. She has front shoes. When highly stressed she will chew wood, and I am happy to provide and install angle iron if needed but this has not been an issue for us as she matures. An easy keeper, quality hay and a taste of grain is all she requires.
I am also very open to a work/board trade situation. I have boarded at facilities, and I have owned my own (small) boarding facility. I take pride in details, top notch nurture and care of horses and facility. I really enjoy giving youngsters a proper foundation, which is incorporated in the everyday handling. I own and manage vacation rental properties and I take care of all the home's needs from outside to in. I can install a fence, drive a tractor, fix the gate as well as have professional communications with clients, staff, vendors, and vets. I am intuitive, innovative, and efficient. Currently during my apprenticeship this winter my duties are barn hand top to bottom and education in ground training, strength/balance building, and classical dressage riding. I am a very hands on horse mother, but not overbearing and I keep to myself. I believe a horse should be a horse. References available from anybody in the equine business from vet to photographer to boarder and everything in between.
Please contact me for any further questions about my horse and I. Attached photos of my property, Calliope and I.
