The pic shown is CuCumber, a john mule, at the age of 4. He is now 6 yrs and is a little more stout. He started his career as a coon hunting mule, following the hunting dogs, jumping fences and other obstacles in the dark. He is a great trail mule. I can open and close gates, go over or thru anything. His spook, if he has one, is a total of a foot and 3 secs long. He is the most level headed mule I think I've been around. I have ponied bigger horses off him, herded other peoples animals across running water and he never hesitates.... (read more) He neck reins (when he feels like it, he is a john mule after all), high line ties, backs, loads and unloads on command. There is nothing you can't teach him if you know how. He is so smart, sometimes too smart. He can do a standing coon jump of a little over 4 ft. He'd probably do more but it makes me nervous to ask. He will jump away from you with the command of "get over". Nothing bothers him, hikers, bikers, traffic, atvs, dogs, whatever you come across he just looks on with interest. Due to health issues (getting old sucks), I cannot give him the attention he deserves. I am only riding him a couple of times a month. Granted the ride is 3-5 hrs long, but still not as often as he should have. He is solid, sound, and smart. He changes color with the seasons. Will consider an older mule who doesn't mind standing for long periods as a partial trade.
