Sadly Apollo is for sale due to absolutely no fault of his own.... (read more) My car has become unreliable and I had to upgrade which means I cannot afford a loan payment and board on two horses.
I picked Apollo up in October of 2014 on a trade. I got him from a family who owned him the last two years and rode primarily english once or twice a week and Apollo was mostly the grandkids(ages 3-9) horse to ride in the arena and around the farm to learn basic skills and start to learn jumping. He was a good boy for them but didn't really click. The adults of the family also rode him on trails when they could. Previous to this he was in a 30 day refresher with a trainer in the Bruces Crossing area.
From what the previous owner has told me of Apollo that I have yet to experience for myself due to the time frame of when I got him to snowfall:
Apollo can get antsy when on trails if you are stopped for extended periods of time and do not move. He is forward on trails and likes to be moving. I am sure with more consistent ride time more than a few times a week he would get over this habit.
Apollo can also get antsy when tied but all he does is pace back and forth. He also doesn't enjoy being stalled but he's ever been stalled for extended periods of time. Apollo rides western/english, lunges, w/t/c both directions, ties, trailered nice when I brought him home(otherwise he hasn't been anywhere since). He does drift when cantering but is very correctable. He is soft in the mouth and responds well, ridden in a snaffle the past two years. I ride mostly western so I have switched tack with him. I have had beginner friends on him, the more confident you are with him the better it seems you do. If you are not confident he will take advantage of this and not want to move. With a rider who has experience he doesn't put up much of a fuss. He tries hard for his rider and is very much so in your pocket. Apollo has a certain area on his sides he does not like to be squeezed or have pressure on, if this happens he does "hump" his back up to let you know you are making him uncomfortable. Nice muscle and movement. He can get pushy with personal space and his ground manners need reminders at times but if you keep up with it he is a very respectful horse. I think he had gotten away with some ground manner habits in the past but has been worked with on ground manners since I've owned him.
I recommend a confident beginner with supervision on up for Apollo. On the trails I would suggest a more experienced rider but as I haven't had the chance to ride him on trails due to weather conditions I cannot say for sure.
