"CHIP" is an 11 year old 16+ hands Gelding Registered Tennessee Walking Horse - his registered name is "Summer Fling with JFK" #20307658 with Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association (TWE-BEA).
He is a very unique Liver Chestnut Roan with flaxen mane and tail "Chip" is an incredibly talented and well trained horse. In summer he turns a marbled chocolaty color with light mane and in winter he darkens up considerably and you can see dark browns and deep red and black.... (read more) He is a magnificent color, and he has incredible confirmation and athleticism.
Not only is gorgeous, but he is pretty much a finished horse-push button. He is experienced on the trail and has been shown a lot. He was trained with natural horsemanship methods -mostly Clinton Anderson. He side passes, backs readily, spins on his hindquarters, performs a sliding stop, leg yields, two tracks, does vertical and lateral flexion, ground ties, turns on his forehand, has a good, slow canter on both leads. He has a very soft mouth and is ridden primarily in a snaffle bit.
Previously he was shown in the FOSH Region 2 show in Columbia a few years back. He did trail obstacle, barrels and poles--all three for the first time, freestyle reining, western pleasure 2 gait and 3 gait, and country pleasure. He is very good at shows and requires very little warm-up. He is very consistent and well behaved. He is good when left behind at the trailer or stall and willingly leaves the other horses also.
He is very laid-back and easy to handle. He lets beginners ride him and he does very well for them. He will just follow along with the other horses if you would like. He will ride first or last also. He is very easy to handle on the ground.
He is very easy to catch and loves attention. He has been taught to lower his head to be haltered and bridled--he will lower it when you walk in the stall to catch him without asking. I frequently lead him from the stall to the pasture by his mane without a halter. He is very obedient. He is very much a people horse. He is really big--around 16 hands and very stout. He is from the JFK bloodline and has the unique liver chestnut roan coloring with a large blaze and one hind stocking--he is a very attractive horse. He shoes easily, great to clip, has excellent ground manners, bathes, and loads perfectly. He has a long, thick mane and tail. Chip is a very laid-back horse. He has been ridden by children and inexperienced riders and does very well. He is very patient and calm.
He has also been on the trail a lot. He has been tied on a picket line and does well. He is not afraid of much--when he does spook, it is minimal and he usually just goes on anyway. He likes dogs--they tend to be under his feet and around the hitching post while he is being saddled--this does not bother him at all. He crosses water, logs, ditches etc. He will jump if asked or walk across. Not at all scared of vehicles. Has been around tractors and cars. I ride on a black top road a lot. There we have encountered motorcycles, grain trucks, fourwheelers etc. He will stand perfectly still and let them pass right by.
He is very used to riding alone and very comfortable, but he will also ride well in a group. Chip has also been used to pony horses for their first trip out. He has a lot of patience with them and is a very good influence. He is not mean to them and remains calm through the ride. He has a great gait. He is always very smooth. He will go as slow as you would like, or he can do a very fast gait if you like. He does canter and enjoys cantering if you ask him to. And he does ride double if you want.
It is very hard to find a horse this well trained that is cool and calm enough that you can trust him with a rider of any ability. Once people meet him, he won't last long. He is worth every penny, has been the best babysitter for everyone I have put on him and I know he'll do the same for you for years to come. :-)
