Rocket has been trail ridden extensively in Ohio and Pennsylvania, he is very solid and reliable, not spooky, and goes wherever you point him. He is UTD on vet (he will have spring shots and had his teeth floated last fall) and farrier (does great for farrier! sometimes falls asleep), and we do put front shoes on him during riding season, but he is currently barefoot. Rocket was also shown English in 4-H before we got him 2 years ago, he has a nice frame and knows his gaits when asked for them.... (read more) He does tend to be a bit on the lazy side, but has a nice slow or extended trot, and an easy canter. Responds great for seat lessons on a lounge line, but he is definitely not interested in speed. Rocket will load (even in narrow back of slant load), tie, and bathe (he loves water and will drink out of the hose). He does not require an experienced rider, but does require a CONFIDENT rider who is not afraid to correct him because, given his size, he can be intimidating. He would be a great second horse for husband/boyfriend, 4-H, or trail, but he can be challenging if taken out alone, however, he is fine if trailered alone to meet other riders, even if he is not familiar with those horses. Rocket prefers to be with at least one other horse, but would do best in a situation where he is either in a group of geldings, alone with one other horse (or alone with other horses nearby) or in a large mixed herd of horses. He has been turned out with a small group of mares and young horses, and tends to "rule the roost" and pick on the babies, which is not working, but difficult to remedy due to limited turn out.
Rocket is AQHA eligible, but was never registered. His papers show that he has KC Leaguer in his background and he has a strong halter horse influence in his build.
