"Ernie" is a good looking, 15.1HH, 11yr old grade quarter horse looking for a new home due to lack of finances & time.
He is a stout 1200lbs & has wintered happily in the mountains over the last 5 years without illness or injury. Ernie rides english & western in indoor/outdoor arenas and on the trail. He has participated in cattle drives & low level team penning & while i wouldn't exactly call him cowy, has no fear of cattle and his happy to get close & personal.... (read more) He has also been ridden in a couple of introductory dressage lessons & showed willingness in this discipline.
Only ever ridden him in an eggbutt snaffle & he is respectful of hands, seat & legs; he is currently direct rein trained (two hands) but i don't think it would take him too much to learn to neck rein as he is a very quick learner.
In the arena, Ernie is quiet & attentive and tries very hard to please all levels of rider. On the trail Ernie is a lot of fun with a great marching walk & energetic trot & lope. He rides alone & in a group but can occasionally pop in a spook, so would be best for an intermediate rider & up for trail riding for the time being. During our trail rides he has seen moose, elk, deer, antelope, alpacas, dogs etc and becomes alert but then continues on his way. He also crosses water without fuss. I think he'd make an awesome 4H horse for a teenage rider.
Consistent natural horsemanship training has given Ernie very good ground manners & he will happily stand tied all day long. He is very comfortable in a herd or small group....he has lived in a herd of 50 & in a 2 horse run without any issues.
I've only ever had him in a stock trailer and he loads & trailers like a champ. He does well with his feet & is currently shod all around for the summer.
Most importantly, Ernie is just a sweet, sweet horse who tries incredibly hard to please his owner at all times. He is ready to go in whatever discipline his new owner chooses to take him. I am negotiable on his asking price if i feel that you are the right partner for Ernie. Youtube video of ernie can be seen by copying & posting the following links into your browser. These videos were taken straight out of the pasture after Ernie had had a couple of weeks off and are an honest representation of his abilities. Watch Video
Serious inquiries only please, no horse traders. Please note that Ernie's price reduction is simply a reflection of the market & current hay prices....this is a great horse!
