Fifteen, “Teen,” is sadly being offered for sale due to time constraints on my part. She deserves to be someone’s priority. She is a 15-year-old, 15 hh grade Quarter Horse mare currently boarded at a small farm in Nottingham, NH. I’ve had the pleasure of loving her since she was 2 years old, so finding the perfect home for this sweet girl is my top priority.
In our time together, she’s done a little bit of everything, including gymkhana, barrels, and western dressage.... (read more) She has been ridden primarily western but goes English as well. For the past four years, she’s mostly been trail ridden, which is definitely her favorite job. She rides out confidently both alone and in a group. She’s very much a kick ride and tends to be happy bringing up the rear, but she’ll take the lead when asked or if she’s riding with less confident horses.
While Teen is a laid-back, easygoing mare, she can occasionally be a little pushy or opinionated when she’s in heat. For that reason, I would not consider her suitable for a beginner rider. Her “naughty” moments are typically limited to a small buck or an occasional spook, which are rarely an issue when she’s in consistent work. She simply needs a rider who can confidently work her through those moments if they arise. I think she’d be best suited for a confident novice or intermediate rider looking to enjoy the trails and have some low-key fun together. She is not suited for a lesson program.
Teen is up to date on vaccines and Coggins and had her teeth floated last October. She is currently barefoot and has done well without shoes for nearly a year. However, if you plan on doing extensive trail riding, I would recommend putting on front shoes again or investing in a pair of front hoof boots. When we were riding more regularly, I kept front shoes on her.
She is great for both the vet and farrier. She does receive sedation for her dental work (we use Dr. Webber), which she tolerates very well. Teen loads and trailers without issue and will happily stand tied to the trailer when needed.
She currently lives outside 24/7 with access to a shelter, and that’s where she’s happiest. She can be stalled if necessary and has been during periods of severe weather over the past year, but she’ll often choose to stay outside, even in the rain, snow, or wind.
She has been in and out of consistent work over the past year due to my schedule and hasn’t made it out on the trails yet this season. However, she’s been riding nicely, and we’re working on getting her back into shape.
Taking all of this into consideration, along with the fact that she is grade, I’ve priced her accordingly.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. If you think you might be a good match for Teen, I’d love to hear from you. Thank you!
