This 4 y/o flashy chestnut gelding is eye catching to say the least! He is presently 15.2hh (showing he may grow a bit more), four white socks and a full blaze. He started showing 2' and 2'3" hunter divisions at MHJA this season (red river exhibition park). He is competitive and makes the strides. Breeding 1/4 dutch warmblood (lineage from Voltaire and Grannus); 1/4 Canadian Warmblood; 1/2 AQHA. His has solid lead changes. He travels very level and has a cute jump.... (read more) He turns heads under western tack and would make a nice reining prospect given his level travel. He has a beautiful mane and tail!
His ground manners are good, he requires continued discipline to maintain his progress. I would suggest he go to a rider who works with a trainer/coach as he is still developing and would require ongoing input to progress. He requires a confident leader to help him continue to learn.
He is shod (fronts only - as he is turned out with other horses) and is good for the farrier. He trailers (has loaded onto a 3 horse slant trailer only - step up), he ties and crossties and is getting better with bathing. Vaccinations and coggins (documentation available) are up to date. He is good with dogs, he has been on a handful of trailrides and handles well - no experience with crossing bridges or water though.
He lives in a pasture with run-in shelter, he has been stabled while showing and handles 'stall-life' well. He is currently pastured with 3 other geldings and is 'middle' in terms of pecking order. He is an easy keeper and maintained on hay and pellets/beetpulp. He is blanketed in the winter and wears fly-gear in the summer.
I have additional videos available with him in western tack (I can send you a link if you message me). His neck reining at this time is elementary, he would take well to learning stops/spins (not my discipline, so I have not pursued this with him). He has been ridden in various bits; loose ring snaffle; mylar level 3 (softest); happy mouth rubber snaffle (small elevator style), as well as western shank with port and no issues with any. He has a soft mouth but responds well to carrying some feel on the reins. He does require a strong leg and when working over fences I use round-ended spurs.
He has a 'goof-ball' personality - carrying around his feed bucket in the pasture and exploring anything with a curiosity that puts a smile on your face to watch. I have owned him since he was weaned - he has been a lovely horse to bring along to this point. If he gets too 'friendly' he redirects well when you remind him of the space he is not to occupy (I.e. yours). He needs reminding of his manners from time to time, and again would benefit from an owner/rider who is willing to enforce these boundaries for him.
I am selling him as I have another young one who requires my time and attention. My daughters already have their horses so he is in need of someone who can continue with his mileage and development.
He is a nice guy and will make someone a wonderful mount for years to come. Reasonable offers will be considered.
