Mateo is a beautiful black Morgan/Friesian-type gelding with professional training and a wonderful personality on the ground. Mateo is a substantial, powerful horse with a sensitive nature. He has professional training but needs an experienced, calm and confident horseperson who appreciates a sensitive horse and is willing to develop a relationship with him. He can be anxious and looky, so he is not being represented as a beginner or push-button horse.
I originally purchased Mateo hoping he would become my personal riding horse, but circumstances kept me from riding him myself. With the right experienced person, I believe he may be suitable for light recreational riding. I am looking for a home that will appreciate him for who he is rather than expecting strenuous riding, jumping or heavy performance work.
Mateo had an episode of founder in his left front before I purchased him more than four years ago. It has not caused him problems during my ownership, and he is currently barefoot. My farrier has advised that regular trail riding may warrant front shoes. A veterinary pre-purchase examination is absolutely welcome, and I will openly discuss everything I know about his history.
The right home matters tremendously to me. I'm looking for an experienced horseperson who will provide excellent long-term care and treat Mateo kindly. References will be requested, and I would love occasional updates after his sale.
