We call this one Velvet.
She came in with 2 other mares off the same farm....guarantee there were papers on her, but we will never know. Velvet had not been ridden in a VERY long time! She needs to get back in a routine.
She is 16, a stout, solid mare at 14.3 hands and she can carry someone.
This mare has some motor, it's all controllable, but if you are intimidated by a forward mover, she will not be for you! She is actually quite broke and is a ton of fun to ride!!... (read more) She has a lot of good qualities and a few lesser and we will mention them all!
She is easy to catch, tacks up well, gets along with everything we have her turned out with. She has a little neck rein, she is smooth as glass, she has a long stride and can certainly cover some ground, all these are good traits, in my opinion. She looks through that bridle and moves on, but if you say stop, she easily does! She has a good mouth and we ride her in an Argentine snaffle.
Now, to the lesser qualities....as soon as the bridle goes on she is READY to go....she anticipates every move from there on. She doesn't stand the best to mount and I have found that if I let her lunge a few laps around me, then she will pay more attention and with patience, she will stand for the block....for a younger, taller person, may not be a big deal, Im getting old and Im short, so it matters to me. Once mounted, she is very respectful and listens well, but again, she does move on! I don't define her as hot, she doesn't rear or pop up, she just likes her feet moving.
She does have an old scar on her back left, we have a picture of it...believe me, it doesn't slow her down or seem to bother her at all. It's been that way for most of her life.
Anybody that likes to trail ride and cover some miles should love her. If you want to just tip toe around and smell the flowers, she's not the one.
Personally, I (Brandy) love riding her and Dakota rode her, as well....for those of you that know Dakota, she is NOT his type of horse, but he agreed that she was a lot of fun and super smooth!
I mean this respectfully, but if you aren't a decent rider, please don't inquire about her!

We buy and sell horses and ponies. There are several of us who work with all the animals and evaluate them, figure out their personalities and quirks, and let's be honest, they all have them. We are very honest about what we are selling and tell all the behaviors we have noticed while they are with us. Key words being "while they are with us." If you take them home, feed 10 gallons of grain, don't ride them and let them get away with every bad behavior possible, we can't help that when their behavior changes.
