Phoenix is a 2018, 15H, Grade Arabian/Saddlebred Gelding
Broke to ride, has been trail ridden, and completed 5 LD's in 2025 with his prior owner. He's been ridden both Western & English. He has more English potential competition wise, then Western. He's got comfortable gaits, is forward, (still has that Endurance training within him), powerful, and could definitely take someone where they would like to be competition wise.... (read more) I'd say he'd excel in any sport, I don't think he has much for limits that wise, it just depends on being given an opportunity with his next potential owner. He would also be just fine as a trail horse or all around too. You just don't always see horses with a lot of potential for competition, but this boy naturally has it.
I haven't personally gotten him on trails myself yet hence the price reduction until I am able to get him down there, I am big on not promoting something unless I have experienced it myself, but he does have past experience though and was told he seemed to like to be on the trail. He was ridden at Zumbro Bottoms before, crossed the bridge, etc. with his prior owner. He's been ridden solo, down the road, etc. he rides out wonderfully.
He's sweet, personable, and curious. But he is more on the spicey side. You can definitely have your slow trail ride and then get going on the Endurance circuit as he is now, but if he doesn't have the balance of both whether that's Endurance or some other form of competition, he will get race brain and get himself worked up which is what I mean by spicey. He's more go than whoa, even though I did work on slow work when re-training him, and while he is a lot slower in a sense, if he has the option to cover ground and have fun, he is going to take it. He has offered a mild crow hop if he's sat for a while without consistent work, but that is the worst of it. If you're looking for more go than whoa, a little more spice to keep things interesting, and a horse to have fun with, this is going to be your guy.
I'd consider him best for an intermediate rider, I don't believe he is or will be beginner friendly. He is a lot of horse in the wrong hands. But he is the perfect horse, in the right hands. Best way I can describe him.
He came in with a head tossing issue, while it has been greatly minimized and doesn't offer it when riding with me in a typical riding situation, but if he is in an anxiety inducing situation, he will offer it once or twice. I believe it is a release, more than a habit, I think if he gets anxious it's just his way of releasing that emotion. Such as a horse may paw, snort, dance, etc. it can be managed with a tie down or running martingale if necessary and it isn't unrideable. It's just a "thing" Phoenix has. He also does this consistently out in the pasture over nothing. Very similar to the Arabian head toss for those familiar.
His price will bump back up to $6500 after he hits the trails with me personally in the next few weeks. Get him now while he's at a reduced price.
