Red is truly a one-of-a-kind horse, after months of careful preparation, training, and exposure, he is ready to find his forever person.
If you're looking for a horse that genuinely enjoys being around people, Red is your guy. He's always the first to the gate, loves attention, and would happily spend hours being fussed over.... (read more) He will keep you entertained constantly with his goofy gelding personality. His story is a little longer than most, but for the right person, it's well worth the read and he deserves nothing but the best of homes.

Red was bred in New York before racing at Churchill Downs as a two-year-old. He went on to race in New Orleans, Edmonton, Arizona, and Florida before finishing his racing career at Assiniboia Downs.
Following retirement, he spent about a year being restarted western before moving to a wonderful home where, unfortunately, life became busy and he spent roughly eight years turned out in a pasture. Last fall, Red came to me, and over the past several months we've discovered just how talented and willing he really is.

Rather than being happiest with one specific discipline, Red simply enjoys doing whatever his person asks of him.
Since the fall, Red has:
• Jumped courses up to 3' • Competed in eventing at EV90 • Logged extensive trail miles both on and off property • Been a trusted lesson horse for riders for our introductory program through advanced students, as well as birthday party rides • Worked both English and Western (typically ridden in a rubber snaffle, but has also gone well in a western shank) • Been exposed to cattle, donkeys, goats, dogs, and busy farm life • Proven himself to be incredibly affectionate and people-oriented

Thanks to his extended time off following his racing career, Red had the opportunity to mature without years of continuous riding, setting him up for success for a long career.

Red could go many different directions, from english to western, trails to eventing to the hunter/jumper world, he would also be just as happy to have a laid-back chill home with the odd adventure. He would absolutely be perfect for an adult amateur wanting a horse to love on and share experiences with, a kid gung-ho to learn and have adventures on or anything in between.
While he has had all levels of rider on him, he is responsive to leg, especially when in competitive shape, so riders who are less balanced should be comfortable keeping that in mind

Management
• Lives outside 24/7 but is equally happy stalled • Requires grain and front shoes • Blanket is optional—he's comfortable with or without one • Loads, trailers, ties, cross ties, bathes, clips, and stands well for the farrier and veterinarian • Requires no veterinary maintenance • Up to date on vaccinations, deworming and coggins • Maintained on a six-week farrier schedule

Red will remain in professional training and continue competing until he finds his perfect home.
