Sierra – Exceptional Mustang Mare with a Quarter Horse Build and Mind

Sierra came to our facility from a holding facility in June 2025 and quickly surprised us—she turned out to be much larger than the BLM had listed! With her fabulous conformation and solid, stock-horse appearance, she gives off all the Quarter Horse vibes and certainly doesn't fit the typical Mustang stereotype. Sierra boasts fantastic manners and an outstanding foundation, with impeccable groundwork skills developed through approximately 25 different exercises. She is respectful, responsive, and a pleasure to handle both on the ground and in the saddle.

Started under saddle in the fall of 2025, Sierra is currently riding walk, trot, and canter in a snaffle, hackamore, or completely bridleless. She understands seat and leg cues well enough to be confidently ridden without a bridle and has developed a strong western stop and a quality back-up.

Sierra has been introduced to lateral work and knows leg yields for the shoulders, ribs, and hips. She performs excellent turns on the forehand and haunches and is beginning to develop a quick, reining-style spin. She sidepasses with ease, including over obstacles and for long distances. She has a wonderful counterbend and two-track.

While she has not yet worked cattle, she has been exposed to the cutting flag and shows promise for a variety of disciplines. Sierra has traveled off the farm to clinics, ridden quietly with unfamiliar horses, and has even been used for riding lessons.

Nothing much seems to bother this mare. She has experience with traffic, farm equipment, dogs, children, and various farm animals. She has been trail ridden over rugged terrain and is comfortable covering 10+ mile days. Sierra self-loads onto the trailer and travels well.
