"Boone" is a 2015 AQHA bay roan gelding standing 15.2 hands and weighing every bit of 1,350 pounds. If there was ever a horse that checked all the boxes, this is him. Good looking, great minded, safe, broke, athletic, personable, and built like a brick house. Boone is sired by Doc Serendipity Oak, a son of the NCHA earner Peptos Stylish Oak, who is by the legendary Peptoboonsmal. The best part? How he is bred isn't even the best part about him. Boone has become one of our absolute favorites around the barn. Sure, he's a gorgeous bay roan that turns heads everywhere he goes, but what really makes him special is his personality. He's the first one waiting at the gate to see you. The kind that drops his head into your chest looking for scratches and follows you around like a dog. If horses could save therapy bills, Boone would probably qualify. Boone is one of those who loves to have "his person" and once you are that person for him, it's game over. This gelding genuinely wants to please. He's constantly looking for the right answer, always soft, willing, and trying for his rider. You can feel it every time you swing a leg over him.

He has been ridden by just about everyone. Beginner kids taking lessons, advanced riders, ranch riders, trail riders, and everything in between. Before coming to Minnesota, I imported Boone myself from Canada where he was being used in a ranch riding and reining lesson program, which only added to the solid foundation he already had.

Under saddle, Boone is exactly what most people spend years trying to find. He neck reins one handed, side passes, leg yields, spins correctly, stops off your seat, and moves willingly off your legs. He has smooth transitions, a comfortable trot, and a slow rocking chair lope that's easy to sit all day long. He's equally happy cruising down a trail on a loose rein as he is riding around in an arena showing off all the buttons.

Want to ride English? Throw an English saddle on him and go. Want to ranch ride? He's got the foundation. Want to trail ride all weekend? That's probably his favorite job. Boone has been hauled all over, ridden at state parks, taken on overnight camping trips, gone through obstacle courses, and exposed to about everything we could think of. He's crossed water, navigated rough terrain, handled road traffic, cattle, deer, farm machinery, dogs, and all the chaos that comes with everyday life. Nothing seems to bother him.

He rides out alone or in a group. He'll work cattle. He's comfortable around livestock. He stands tied, stands quietly for the farrier, loads easily, and handles time off better than most horses handle regular work. Ride him every day or let him sit for a month and a half. Either way, he's still Boone when you pull him out. One thing I love about him is that he's the perfect size. Big enough to comfortably carry just about any rider, yet not so tall that getting on and off becomes a chore.

Finding one that combines this level of disposition, training, safety, personality, athletic ability, and eye appeal in one package is incredibly difficult. Boone is the type that fits almost everyone.
