Cabbage Patch — 13-year-old Shetland Pony Gelding - Birmingham, AL
Cabbage Patch is a cute, fun, energetic 13-year-old Shetland pony looking for the right job and the right kid.
He is approximately 10–10.3 hands. He is up to date on Coggins, shots, and just had his teeth floated. He also has a clean vet check from back in October.
Cabbage Patch is wonderful on the ground. He is extremely beginner-friendly for handling and has been excellent around our young children, toddlers, and baby.... (read more) He is careful and respectful with little ones, lets children brush him, can be led by kids, picks up his feet, and stands well for the farrier. He is sweet, safe, and easy to have around on the ground.
Under saddle, he is more pony than we need for our family right now. We purchased him in November as a very beginner-safe riding pony for our young children, but he has proven to be too forward and too smart for tiny beginner riders. Our kids are five and under, and while he is good-intentioned, he will take advantage of a very beginner or timid child.
He needs a confident little rider with some experience, a regular program, and a job.
Cabbage Patch is not mean or bad-minded. He is just a classic pony with energy. He has a forward walk, likes to trot, and would do best with a kid who knows the basics and has guidance. I think he could be a very fun pony in the right program. Honestly think he would make an incredible games pony.
He drives and loves to drive. I have not personally driven him, but I have extensive video of him driving. I also have his previous sales video showing him being ridden, stepping up and down, walking over tires, going through water, and doing trail-style obstacles.
I have personally ridden him around our neighborhood, through a covered bridge, and out and about with no spook. He has a good brain and is not looking for trouble — he just needs consistency and a real job.
I could see him being a very fun:
* games pony
* driving pony
* second pony
* confident kid’s pony
* pony club type project
* leadline/groundwork pony with little kids, but not a first independent riding pony for tiny beginners
He is currently out of shape and would benefit from being brought back into a regular routine.
We have around $7,500 in him between purchase price and shipping, but I understand he was not the beginner riding pony we thought we were buying. The right home matters most.

I also have a very cute red miniature horse/small pony cart that looks brand new and was custom made. It has never actually been used. I would be open to selling it with him as a package deal with his harness for $6500 (cart was $2000)
