Ranger is a 15.1+hh, 7yo American Cream Draft with a little QH and littler TWH (according to DNA)
TL;DR:
• The Horse: Ranger, a 15.1hh Draft-cross overachiever who does everything from eventing to skijoring, and wins champion ribbons. He’s safe enough for my 8-year-old bareback, but green enough to challenge an advanced rider.

• The Deal: Starts at $500/mo for 2/week in Upton, MA at The Carlyle Estate visit our website I would be open to 3 days a week as well, cost would reflect extra day. I would ask the person takes at least 1 lesson every other week (paid directly to trainer, many to choose from)
•The Leasee: I would be open to someone who is beginner/intermediate/re-rider that wants to hack and get more time in the saddle or someone who is more advanced and wants to do more advanced things with him. Given his size, I would say his max rider weight is 160-170 lbs. You must want a best friend to love, not just a dirtbike to ride. If you just want to hop on and leave, keep scrolling!
Here is the novel:
• The Resume: He's a little guy with huge movement. He won the CRDA Open Division in 2025 (his first full season out!) and also took home season champion in Prix Caprilli, Eventing, and Intro, though to be fair, in some of those, he was the only entrant ?
• Jack of All Trades: We have done 3 tiny events (zero jump penalties, always in the ribbons). He has fox hunted in both hilltopper and first flight, and he genuinely does not care if he is leading the pack or dead last.
• Saintly Tendencies: He will hack out alone or in company. I can hack him bareback in a rope halter and feel totally safe. One day my 8-year-old rides him bitless and bareback, and the next day I take him cross-country. He adapts to his rider.
• He's Game for Anything: He ground drives, long lines, lunges, and will even let you drag a skier behind him (yes, we skijored this winter).
• The Brains: He is "in your pocket" and fairly unflappable for his age. No bolt, rear, or buck, and he only spooks if there is a legitimate, logical reason to fear for his life.
• The Training: He is green, so he does require an advanced rider if you want to do more advanced movements, but he never puts a hoof out of place and trusts his person completely. So if you are more beginner, he would still be a good fit. He is schooling second level (working on changes) and this season competing at first level dressage and 2' eventing. He can jump way higher, but my wimp-factor gets in the way.
• Equine Affair Star: He was selected for the versatility clinic at Equine Affair in 2025! He completely froze when we got into the coliseum, but he didn’t do anything scary or bad. You can watch his audition video here:

The Catch (Nobody is Perfect)
So what’s wrong with him? He has a mild case of FOMO. He sometimes does not like being in the barn alone, and will do a little tap dance on the cross-ties when being tacked up. It’s not dangerous, just mildly annoying. Good for the vet, farrier, leading, etc.

• I am a 40-something who works full-time at a demanding job, with a husband and a kid.
• I’ve been riding for 35 years. I used to be a fairly decent rider, grew up in Hunters, captain of my college Eq team, moved on to Eventing, and now I am happily washed up but willing to give anything a try
• I am 5’4” and a bit chubby, so his size is absolutely perfect for me.
• His care is my #1 priority. He gets everything he needs: regular bodywork, saddle fitting, and medical insurance. All is included in the lease fee, no extra charges.
• His Origin Story: Ranger was at an Amish auction in Ohio and didn't sell (which usually ends very badly). A nice man scooped him up, he ended up in MA, and I accidentally fell in love with him 2.5 years ago when I definitely wasn't horse shopping. My leaser and I have produced him under trainer supervision, and it’s been a labor of love. He is truly the loveliest horse I’ve ever met.
The Lease & Facility Details
• The Vibe: I am looking for someone who wants a relationship with Ranger. If you just want to treat him like a dirtbike, hop on, and leave, keep scrolling. I want someone who genuinely loves him.
• The Price & Time: Starts at $500 (includes all care). I am incredibly flexible for the right person, and will often throw free riding time at you when I am traveling or busy.
• Lessons: Every other week lessons are required.
• Location: We will be boarding in Upton, MA at The Carlyle Estate visit our website It's an amazing facility with a groomed outdoor arena, roundpen, indoor, trails, and fields to ride in. There is also a heated/cooler office space for those who want to work from the barn, hang out etc.
• Start Date: September 1 or after.
