Safe, safe, safe — and yes, I’ll say it again: SAFE.
Wheels is as kind as the day is long. Honestly, he wouldn’t hurt a fly… if he wasn’t a horse! He loves treats and has a huge personality that reminds me of Mickey Mouse in a horse body.
He stands perfectly for the vet, farrier, bathing, and grooming. The only time you’ll hear any “cuss words” from him is if you’re late for feed time.... (read more)
He stalls and pastures perfectly. His turnout group consists mostly of retired and lesson horses, so he lives a very simple life and probably gets a little bored.
Wheels absolutely loves attention. Grooming, scratches, treats, hanging out — he eats it up. Despite loving treats, he is not nippy.
I had major surgery and wasn’t able to ride for two years. When I finally got back on a horse, I was honestly terrified, and Wheels was the first horse I rode. As he always does, he took care of me. Riders from ages 6 to seniors have been on him with no issues.
He stands 16.1 hands, but you wouldn’t guess it because he has a bulldog build — wide as he is tall. He is also an easy keeper.
Flaws (because honesty matters):
Some cosmetic bumps on his front knees from past bone chip surgery
Old-school freeze fire marks on his left hock
A small bump on one nostril that honestly just adds to his character
He is sound and remains sound. He also had excellent connections during his racing career, and they took very good care of him.
I have veterinary paperwork stating he has no riding limitations. Like many horses (and people), he benefits from basic maintenance. Currently he’s only on Joint Flex and doing great.
I truly do not want to sell him, but life circumstances have changed and I can’t justify keeping such a nice horse standing around when he could be out making someone happy.
I could see Wheels going in almost any direction — jumping, dressage, hunting, barrels, or whatever you choose. He enjoys learning and would happily continue his education.
During my ownership he has mostly been a lesson fill-in and trail horse, but he has the mind and ability to do more.
A truly special, safe gelding looking for the next person to love him.
