Meet Mr. Maverick.

Maverick is a 9 year old Quarter Horse cross gelding I believe he is crossed with fox trotter, he stands about 14.1 hands and built like a little tank! He is the perfect size, the perfect build, and yes… he knows it.... (read more) He will walk right up in the pasture and volunteer himself, drop his head right into the halter for you. If you try to catch another horse first and he will absolutely insert himself into the plan and make you pet, catch or pay attention to him FIRST lol

This pretty boy has serious miles! He has been hailed and over night we on camp trips in multiple states, all types of trails, town riding, highways, semis, sirens, motorcycles, bridges, water crossings, hills, camping trips, parades and swimming like it’s part of his job description. He has worked feed lots moving cattle, been on elk and hog hunts (it’s been a few years), sorted cattle, he’s been roped off, dragged calves and bigger cattle, we have used him to teach the young and spooky horses the ropes ponying them to town, across creeks, in some rough terrain and for many miles. He has loped the barrels and poles and done a little bit of Playday 4H events also.

Maverick rides alone or in a group and does not feed off chaos. If other horses are losing their minds, Maverick is usually standing there waiting for everyone to get it together.

His “WHOA” is perfection! When you say the word he stops on a dime! He is soft in the face, rides one handed, works off leg pressure, backs beautifully collected and just using a pinky finger to back him, we ride him in spurs but also I have ridden in tennis shoes and even bare foot, he goes nicely in a mild bit, simple halter, and rides great in a Hackamore, and his trot and lope are smooth and there is ZERO bounce!
We have literally raced and ran as fast as he could get it and he can cover some ground and when he will slow right back down easily to a nice collected short lope, and when asked to whoa or walk he settles right back down and you can drop the reigns he lowers his head and stays in a quiet walk. He will step over to a mounting block, to a tailgate, a tree stump, gate or whatever you need to mount him with, he stands to saddle and mount, and you can saddle, mount or dismount from either side and he stands completely still, he loads himself and all you have to do is point his nose and throw his lead over and he jumps in the trailer and goes to his position easily, ties and stands quietly, and handles obstacles, blazes trails in the day or night; and loud, busy places with calm and confidence!
He also knows round pen work and join up and is respectful on the ground.

Now for the honest part that has recently been a thing with this pretty boy…

This last year has been challenging and tough on me and my kids. I was rear ended last October which totaled my trailer and physically limited how much I’ve been able to ride. Between that, a divorce, and life shifting in ways I didn’t expect, Maverick has not been ridden or even had hands on him consistently. Because of that, he has gotten a little spoiled and developed this new thing that in the right hands is no issue at all.

If asked to leave the place he’s saddled up at, or home, by a timid rider, he will test you at first. This is brand new because before him sitting for a year kids and beginners rode him frequently and he did as he was asked.
However, recently he has started a small rear (no tie down or prevention tool on him) when asking him to leave the place, he use to ride out solo no problem at all!
He does NOT and has not ever bucked, he does NOT bolt, or attempt to run off but he rears. The moment he is corrected firmly and confidently, and he see that you won’t let him get his way, he stops and does exactly what he’s asked and doesn’t try it again.

He is truly harmless but if you don’t know him and aren’t a confident rider this could scare you. He is actually honestly like an oversized spoiled beautiful puppy dog! I have back problems and nerve problems in my back and have to be so careful with riding and I have ridden him and when he reared I spanked his butt with a crop, and immediately made him back up 10-20’ aggressively and he stopped and didn’t even try to rear again he walked right off and didn’t exactly as I had asked. I want to be completely honest and transparent and we will be trying to ride him more, I’m trying to find someone who can ride a few times a week.

This is not a mean or dangerous horse. This is a smart horse who hasn’t been ridden and hardly even had hands on him
In the last year. Once he’s back to riding from a confident rider, he will go back to his norm and this behavior will disappear!

The normal Maverick can be ridden by anyone! I have had many kids on him, he recently is being caught, saddled and ridden by 9 year old girls who are not experienced and they ride him in the round pen with no issues and I have ponied him with beginner young ones to town and on trails with no problems. Regardless of size if someone understands how to hold him accountable, and make him understand right off the bat there will be no non sense he doesn’t even test you! Maverick is truly an incredible horse and will make someone the perfect partner as he is one of the BEST Trail/All around horses you will swing a leg over! Seriously….

I have reduced him due to me not being able to ride, lack of help at the moment, having an overflowing plate as a single mother and to get him his perfect new forever home asap but most importantly to help me and my kiddos get through this season. However, this does not mean I will let him go for nothing. He is an exceptional horse and will make someone a very special best friend!

I have sold family safe horses for years and most of them don’t go to Oklahoma homes they ship out of state and I can help walk you through the process which is very easy if you aren’t local. The closest airport to us is Tulsa or Ft Smith and I’m happy to pick up customers if you’d like to fly in to meet this handsome boy!
