Kahlua is a 17 hand, black Percheron mare, and she's just 5 years old. We bought her as a 3 year-old and started her under saddle. During the past 2 years, she's been ridden by riders up to 300 lbs and by kids ages 6 and up at our summer camp. She's laid back, beginner and kid safe, and has more whoa than go. We use her and our other draft horses for riders over 200 lbs and to ride double with young kids too young to ride on their own.... (read more) She has a good head on her shoulders and has her whole life ahead of her.

Kahlua is shod on the front and trimmed on the back. Shoeing stocks aren't necessary for this draft mare. She has good feet, but we have rocky terrain, so all of our horses are shod to protect their hooves from stone bruising on the quartz rock on our farm. She rides English, Western, and bareback. Unlike so many draft horses, Kahlua has a full tail, ie. her tail hasn't been docked. She's absolutely gorgeous.

People always ask why we're selling our horses. There's nothing wrong with them. Quite the contrary. They're for sale because it's part of our business model: we buy, train, put lots of trail hours on them, and make them safe for beginners, and eventually we sell them at a profit to compensate us for all the training and trail hours we have put on them. We don't have to speculate as to what age or riding level a rider needs to be at in order to ride them. We KNOW because they've done it many times over. If we say a 6 year-old child with no riding experience can ride the horse, then they can - and have. And if we say we wouldn't put anyone younger than an inexperienced 10 year-old, then you shouldn't consider the horse for your 5 year-old to ride on their own.
