We raised Louise from a young yearling filly to a really nice black Percheron mare who stands at 17.1 hands. Her registered name is A&B Farms Maggie, and she was foaled on March 15, 2020. She is a 5 year-old (nearly 6) now, so she's unlikely to get any taller. She has really filled out over the past year. She's a big girl but a gentle giant. We started her under saddle when she was 2 1/2 years old. I know this because we took a picture of her the first time that we saddled her on Nov 1, 2022.... (read more) See photo below in the slide show. Our staff rode her for the first year and a half then she began taking novice riders from the general public as a 4 year-old. She has been ridden consistently by our guides and customers for the past 2 years. As you can see in the video on our website, we use her to ride double with kids too young to ride on their own and for heavier riders up to 280 lbs.
The photo and video of Louise loading into a horse trailer for only the 2nd time in her life were taken on Oct 28, 2023 when she was just 3 1/2 years old, and you can see that video on our website as well. You can see even at that young age how well put together she is. She has a nice star, a beautiful head, and graceful neck attached to a powerful chest. You can also read a nice review about Louise written by one of our customers. We've even included a few of her baby pictures near the end of the slide show on our website. She was in the middle of the 3 draft fillies in each of the photos. She was 10 months old in the first and 15 months old in the last.
Shoeing stocks aren't necessary to trim or shoe Louise. She is currently shod on all four feet. She has good feet, but we have rocky terrain, so all of our horses are shod to protect their hooves from stone bruising on the quartz rock on our farm. She rides really well and is often used for our customers who want to trot and canter because she will canter without concern that she may buck. As you can see on the video, you can bridle her easily in a matter of seconds, and she rides great bareback. She moves with beauty and grace. Watch her at play in the video on our website. She's the horse in the greyish blue halter. She's a very willing mare and will make you a really nice horse. She will ride English or Western and is open for breeding.
People always ask why we're selling our horses. There's nothing wrong with them. Quite the contrary. They're for sale because it's part of our business model: we buy, train, put lots of trail hours on them, and make them safe for beginners, and eventually we sell them at a profit to compensate us for all the training and trail hours we have put on them. We don't have to speculate as to what age or riding level a rider needs to be at in order to ride them. We KNOW because they've done it many times over. If we say a 6 year-old child with no riding experience can ride the horse, then they can - and have. And if we say we wouldn't put anyone younger than an inexperienced 10 year-old, then you shouldn't consider the horse for your 5 year-old to ride on their own. All our horses sell as sound with no vices. To see all of our horses for sale, schedule time to come see them at Dead Broke Farm. Prices listed are firm.
