Donny D is a 4-year-old, 16.2–16.3hh Percheron/Friesian cross gelding. If you’re looking for a gentle giant, look no further.... (read more) Donny is sweet as pie, sensible, and most importantly—safe. He’s a lovely cross of the two breeds: compact and sturdy, yet athletic with nice movement. This gelding is broke to ride English, Western, bareback, and to drive! With his kind personality and reliability, Donny would make the perfect husband horse, guest horse, or all-around safe partner to have around.
On the trail, Donny has most of his miles—and he’s a fun ride to take out! He’s seen everything from deer popping out, cyclists and hikers passing by, loud traffic, and just about everything else you find on a busy trail. He loves to swim in the river and will splash and play in the water all day if you let him. Donny’s fun personality keeps you smiling. He’s the type of horse you can throw anyone on for a trail ride without worry. He goes through tunnels, up and down mountain trails, across open fields, and through creeks with no hesitation. He’s carried adult beginners in large and small groups, will happily lead or follow, and never rushes. If you want to crack a beer open and have a good time, Donny’s your guy. His go-to is to mosey along, but he’ll pick up a trot or canter and keeps up with a group well. He’s the same reliable horse every time you take him out—a truly safe, stress-free partner.
In the ring, Donny has been started on the basics and is doing very well. He walk–trot–canters both directions, picks up both leads, and his canter is to die for! He tends to be more of a push ride, but not one you have to constantly keep after. His transitions are smoothing out nicely, and his canter is one of the best in the barn. He stops on a dime with a simple sit back or “whoa.” He’s learning balance, starting collection, and moving off the leg, and he picks things up quickly. Donny is forgiving of mistakes and can “take a joke,” making him suitable for a variety of riders. For his age, he’s doing all the right things, and he’ll be lots of fun for someone who wants a safe, fun horse to continue bringing along.
In the barn, Donny has made himself a favorite. His favorite time of day is feeding time, and he’ll nicker when he sees you coming. Don always has a sweet gentle sparkle in his eye, and he is a true love-bug. He gets along well with his pasture buddies and is respectful during turnout and bringing in. He loads right into the trailer and is always ready for an adventure. He’s used to kids on the ground—he’ll stand all day for brushing, braiding, and attention. Donny is respectful in his stall, and for the dentist, farrier, and vet. He appreciates any attention and will happily soak up all the love you give him.
Donny is an incredibly sweet gelding with a bright future—we’re excited to find him the best home!
