I have a yearling stud colt. I just bought him this last May. I had hopes to turn him into a barrel horse once he reached a mature age. However, life happens and now I have to downsize my herd. He has come a long way since I bought him. He came off of the range so he was not handled at all. A girl bought him in north branch and offered him to me. At this point you could get him to eat out of a bucket and pet him but that was pretty much it. When we picked him up, it took us an hour and a half to load him into the trailer.... (read more) We have not tried to load him since. However, I do not think it would take much work now that I’ve been working with him.

After a month of slow working and gaining his trust, I was able to get a halter on him. By day 2 we had him leading. He’s a very smart and well behaved boy. He’s a nice looking colt and seems to take after Peotoboonsmal. He’s very Chill. I’ve been able to take warm water and a latex glove and just clean his junk. He falls asleep and just lets you do it. I have not had to sedate him once in order to do it. He picks up his feet. My farrier trimmed him 5 weeks ago and stood like a gentleman. He does have two cracks on his hind feet from not having farrier for over a year. He does let me soak his feet in buckets. I’m pretty sure that he had 2 abscesses at one point and that is why he has those two cracks. They are starting to look a lot better.

I have also started to work him in the roundpen and throw a saddle onto his back. He’s going to be an amazing horse. I wish we didn’t have to sell him. My loss is your gain.
