2009 Grade Buttermilk Buckskin Mare - Nova
I bought this mare back in March of 2022. The girl I bought her from said she was 12-13 years old (I had my vet float her teeth and she confirmed her age). The girl I bought her from said she had a bolting habit. She sent her to a trainer and the trainer ending up sending her back because she couldn’t train her. So then she sat for 2 years and had no riding.
When I bought her as a project back in March 2022.... (read more) I put on 6 perfect rides but then on the 7th ride, she bucked and I went right off. I swung my leg over, she walked off, I pulled back to stop her and reached down to put my leg in the stirrup and she went straight up in the air. I had my vet come out a little while later and we found out that she had an older old wound, her tongue is split in half. So I can’t even be upset that she bucked, I would have bucked too if someone put pressure on my split tongue. I do have pictures of her tongue. It still isn’t healed completely. My vet and I both wonder if it will ever completely heal. I switched to a hackamore and started retraining her for the summer and throughout winter. She also has a scar on her front left leg. I do not know how it got there. She originated from one of the Carolina’s. She has switched hands at least 3 times that I am aware of.
Spring of 2023, my boyfriend and I bought a fixer upper house so she was barely used last summer. I maybe rode her 20 times last year if that. This summer I’ve been trying to get back into training my horses and I’m realizing that I don’t have time to train 6 horses and help finish our house. So sadly this mare will be finding her next loving home.
I haven’t had her try to bolt on me since I started working her again and making her think. I’ve been riding her every day for the past 2 weeks. I can ride double on her. I can swing a whip while I’m on top of her. She’s very pressure sensitive and very forward moving. She is NOT fancy broke at this time. I was more worried about getting her safe and sane before I sell her. I want her to go to someone that will enjoy her.
She was exposed to a registered paint stud this summer. I just received her tests back, she is not bred as of 09/10.
I’ve always wanted a buttermilk buckskin so selling her is hard for me. A good home is a must. I have much more to say about this mare but sadly this would end up being a book if I give you every detail. I know this is a longer post, but I just want to be thorough and make sure someone knows exactly what type of horse they are getting. If you have questions feel free to ask. I try to respond quickly so please reach out.
I have tons of videos and photos of this mare. I consistently get compliments about her. She’s an eye catcher.
