Ginger
There is a LOT of information here, please read this description in its entirety to answer 95% of your questions!! Suitable for intermediate rider or above.
Ginger is a grade liver chestnut 15.1h Quarter Horse mare (has been DNA tested for breed) and is estimated to be around 14 years old by a vet based on teeth. UTD on vax, shoeing (wears fronts) and just had teeth floated.
To the best of my knowledge, Ginger spent her first decade of life as a trail horse, logging hundreds of miles in Colorado back country.... (read more) She is the best trail horse I’ve ever owned; she is relaxed in a group, has no problem going in middle of pack or last. Will ride out alone or lead with a confident rider (I’ve only tested this lightly, as I never ride alone for safety reasons). Water, logs, bridges, deer are no problem at all. She will tie all day to a tree. Hops easily in a trailer, travels well with others and quickly settles even if she’s solo.
Between her years with her first owner as a trail horse and us purchasing her, Ginger did have some professional arena training. For at least an intermediate rider, she is super fun to ride because she has all the “fancy” buttons! She has a great whoa, neck reins, backs, side passes, turn on forehand and haunches, steers very well by leg and seat. I am an experienced rider that has ridden and competed decades in English and jumping and eventing; she is MY favorite horse to ride personally and I think she is very well suited to continue under English tack and possibly low level dressage or jumping. She’s actually been mistaken for a warmblood under English tack! ? She has three beautiful gaits under saddle, and is extremely comfortable to ride! She’d even make a fantastic Western Dressage prospect. I have popped her over a few low jumps and cross rails and she was forward and willing with snappy knees.
We bought Ginger 2 years ago as a 4H horse for my son, she has been to multiple shows and he has done well on her. She is FANTASTIC in new places when we’ve hauled her out- isn’t a screamer or anxious in any way; settles right in and stalls well (eats/drinks).
PLEASE READ THIS TWICE!!
**That said, I am NOT selling her as a kid or beginner horse** for these reasons: she is FORWARD. She is FAST. She is SENSITIVE to cues. NO SPURS!! She requires a more experienced rider to contain her natural tendency to move out. She would be great for an intermediate rider or above!!
While Ginger is not an in your pocket kind of Horse , she has become fond of her people at my house and is always ready to go to work when she is caught. She is respectful on the ground, never had any problems with tying or bathing or with the farrier. We’ve even given many “pony rides” on her. Just an all-around nice mare!
So… “why are you selling her”?
We have an opportunity to purchase a really quiet semi-retired show horse for my son that he adores riding and is better suited to his ability level. I would love to keep this mare for my personal use, but I need to sell one of my three horses in order to make this work. So technically, I don’t have to sell her and I won’t sell her unless it is to a perfect home that would be an upgrade from what she has with our family currently.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me via messenger or text, but you need to be willing to have a lengthy conversation with me on the phone to determine if this horse is the right fit for you. I will also require that a potential buyer come and ride her. WILL NOT SELL SIGHT UNSEEN.
A pre-purchased exam is welcome and encouraged at buyers expense.
