Now that we've checked those off your list, let's talk about a few more things you might want in your dream horse.
Personally, I like a horse who's friendly and curious. One who comes out every day and loves his job, and loves me enough to take care of me in every situation.
I want a horse who I can swing a rope off of one minute, then take my toddler for a ride the next, without a question in my mind about whether it'll be safe or not.
I want a horse that's handy; you lay the rein and he gets there without dragging his feet. You pull and he stops and backs, no matter the speed he's already going. And when I need to get a gate, I'm the coolest kid on the block because my horse will sidepass right up, work that gate, and wait patiently for my next request without making me struggle, lose my grip and let the whole herd out. (I mean, that's never happened to me before.. I'm just saying, hypothetically, it would be totally not cool if it did.)
And while we're on the subject of what we actually want in a horse, let's not kid ourselves, looks DO matter, a lot. You don't want your friends to snicker behind your back while you're playing cowboy because your horse's butt isn't big enough.
