(read more) True to the rare Grullo color, Huck features a beautiful black dorsal stripe from the base of his mane to his tail, zebra stripes on his legs, black striping over his withers, dark tips on his ears, and dark points on his legs. His calm demeanor, kind heart, and exceptional skill level place him in a league of his own. We've had the pleasure of owning Huck for a year and a half, and his progress has been nothing short of remarkable.
Huck's years under saddle have been spent exploring trails all over the country. As my personal mount, he's been a reliable companion, always eager to learn and willing to please. From groundwork to extreme trail riding, bridleless riding, bird hunting, tricks, lessons, and working cattle, Huck has proven his versatility time and time again. His smart, sensible, patient, and respectful nature makes him a pleasure to have around, both on the ground and in the saddle.
Huck is absolutely exceptional in the arena! He has spent an excessive amount of time learning to go back to the basics of groundwork. He knows how to lunge freely or on a line, change directions by watching your body language, and come to you when called. His ground manners are exceptional, as he will follow you around and always respect your space. In the saddle, Huck is proficient at flexing, responding to leg pressure, picking up his shoulders, and yielding his hind quarters, doing it all effortlessly. He is so soft and supple that he can be ridden in a simple, smooth O-ring snaffle bit or bridleless! Huck has a beautiful way of going with the most natural, smooth gait of any Fox Trotter I have ever owned. He is consistently smooth on any surface, bridle or no bridle, and requires no skill from his rider to make him gait smoothly. Huck also has a lovely lope and will lope both leads on cue in a circle or in a straight line. He neck reins perfectly one-handed, has a lovely side pass, backs easily, and has a great stop by simply responding to your seat. All of Huck’s transitions are smooth, and his cues are simple and easy! He knows them so well; he will ride just as perfectly, bareback and bridleless! He will always stand perfectly still for mounting, then wait for your cue to walk off, and he will side pass up to anything with the snap of your fingers to make mounting easy for you. Huck will even lie down on command with slight pressure on his neck from the ground or the saddle!
Huck is as experienced as it gets on the trail and will willingly go anywhere you ask! He is always careful, sure-footed, and steady while taking his time maneuvering through tough trails. Huck is always aware of his feet and never stumbles. He has lots of experience riding out alone and with large groups of horses. He will walk along on a loose rein and get along anywhere in the group. He will cross water, travel through the mud, and carefully work his way over down timber without hesitation. Huck has been ridden alongside four-lane highways and is great with all kinds of traffic. He has been desensitized and pays no mind to bicycles, wildlife, flags, bullwhips, wagons, fire, smoke, or machinery. Huck is also handy to have on the ranch! You can open and close gates from his back, and he has experience checking, gathering, and sorting cattle, as well as roping and dragging a few slow steers!
Huck is absolutely wonderful with dogs! He has been ridden regularly with 7 dogs and does not mind them running up behind him or popping in and out of the woods. I have even been using Huck to train one of my dogs to jump on the horse from the ground, and he has been so patient with her jumping all over him. Huck has done a little bit of everything! He has been to a few field trials, and we have even used him to teach riding lessons in the arena! He loves children and is patient with them as they learn. He loves to be groomed, will let them pick out all his feet, and stand like a perfect gentleman. He definitely loves the treats they give him, too! Huck doesn’t have a mean bone in his body and is genuinely a kind soul.
Huck is quiet in the barn and also loves to be outside! He gets along wonderfully with other horses and is always easy to catch. He will stand without being tied for saddling, bathing, and grooming. He takes the bridle gently and doesn’t mind you touching his ears. He is broke to hobbles but will also patiently stand tied for hours. He is great for the farrier and will willingly pick up all his feet. He is easy to load in the trailer and travels quietly.
Although Huck has lots of buttons, they are not required for an easy ride. He has been ridden by riders of all ages, from experienced to novice, and is ready for any adventure! From fun days in the arena to trail riding, ranch work, lessons, tricks, and so much more, Huck is ready for anything! He is a dream to ride, and his sweet, quiet personality will make you fall in love in no time. Huck is extremely versatile and has the professional training he will carry with him for life. He has been a joy to have in our lives, and we couldn’t be prouder of him. Huck is a horse like no other! We would love for you to come meet Huck and take him for a ride!
