I have a SUPER FLASHY black gelding for sale on consignment. Endearing and charming personality. Shapey, long legged and bred to move.
Hondo rides bareback, western or English and is traffic, parade, and large riding group safe, gone through water and has been trail ridden extensively to include mountainous trails. He’s seen it all!... (read more)
He was previously a barrel horse and did have a short race career before that. Current owner decided to consign him with me for a career change in the hunter type world! He is most suitable for an intermediate/experienced and soft handed rider under saddle - would not recommend for a novice, not because of any funny business but because he’s greener for this hunter job and is both a very forward moving and thinking horse. Not spooky or watchy on the ground or under saddle. Never offered a buck, rear, crow hop, or anything overtly naughty with me or with the owner. Great on the ground, goofy and sweet, no issues being tied, no issues with farrier, stands quietly for mounting and dismounting, respectful and quite talkative at feeding times.
I’ve had him for 8 weeks now and he’s very smart and willing. He was treated for EPM with a full course of Marquis in November of 2023 and then given a recommended break throughout the winter months. I have brought him back slowly. Lots of trot work and pole work - still strong at the canter so keeping focus on getting most balanced and consistent at the trot. Learning to round and use his body, give to bit pressure and working on softness. He really loves to relax which is a whole new job for him, so he needs a rider who understands and can help him stay relaxed.
He could make a nice low level jumper, had no issue crossing poles and small cross rails, doesn’t over jump, no hesitation or pause to the new obstacle, would need some formal Jump Conditioning for a jumper career. He has further potential as a possible low level eventer with the right person, dressage, and/or a really amazing trail horse.
Only maintenance is a vitamin E supplement to help continued support of EPM. He started off with me barefoot for a while, but recently got him shod as he continues in full work.
Serious inquiries only - I am quite honest about him and am willing to answer any questions - he really has a TON of potential with the right person! Price is negotiable to the best home for him. Located in Red Springs NC!
