If you are looking for a really well broke gelding who is gentle and fun for the entire family to ride, then take a look at Chapo. He is a 13 year old GRADE grey quarter horse gelding, 14.3 hh and nicely built with a very cute head and a kind eye. Chapo is owned by an 8 year old little girl who has ridden him for the last 3 years and has finally moved onto a different horse, and before that he belonged for 4 years to a family with 3 kids who rode him everywhere.... (read more) Chapo has done a little bit of everything, and has plenty of life left to last a long time. He started out being used on the ranch for all phases of ranch work, then was purchased by the family with 3 kids who rode him on the ranch, did playdays on him, and rode him down the road and through town. His current owner has been riding him on the family ranch, and her cousins have been doing leadline on him. He has done barrels and poles, and will go whatever speed you are comfortable doing. Chapo has a neat personality, where he will tone it down for the kiddos and then step it up for a more experienced rider. He is best suited to an experienced youth or advanced beginner adult rider, because he does have a lot of buttons and will move out if asked. Chapo is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and isn’t spooky. Seriously, we haven’t found anything that bothers him. He is very sure footed and will go up, over, or through anything you point him at. Chapo has the smoothest trot you could sit to all day long, and a slow, rocking horse lope. He has been taught to travel out in the pasture and has a nice running walk that can really cover some ground. He is pretty fancy broke with an excellent neck rein, good stop, and he is good on both leads. Chapo will sidepass, work a gate, carry a flag, and he rides bareback in a halter as good as he rides with a saddle and bridle. He has been barefoot his entire life, with good hard feet that hold up even in the rocks. He has excellent ground manners, is good for the shoer, stands quietly tied, loads and hauls well, and gets along with all other horses. Chapo will ride out alone as well as with a group, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group while riding. He has been ridden down the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it.
