Hello everyone, meet Billy Ray! I met Billy Ray three years ago when he was struggling in a lesson program. I took him home to provide him more training and support to be a trail horse. During our training journey I discovered that he has kissing spines and can't be ridden. This is likely the cause for him having so many prior homes before I met him. He is now retired from riding and pain free.
Billy Ray is happy and healthy in a retirement pasture.... (read more) I believe he would be much happier in a home with more interaction and enrichment than I can provide him, as I have a new, demanding job and commute out of the city to visit him.
Billy Ray has two years of professional groundwork training and is a very social, curious horse who loves both people and other horses. He would make a fantastic companion horse but would also be an incredible therapy horse for non-mounted modalities like equine assisted psychotherapy or EMDR. He is 'fancy broke' on the ground and round pens, lunges, and does some liberty work with high sensitivity to cues. He chooses to interact with people in a free-choice round pen setting and loves to give hugs. He is the barn favorite wherever he goes due to his sweet, social personality. He stands like a dream for the farrier and vet and has solid trailer training. He has no bad habits. He can be anxious during change or transition but learns to regulate himself quickly.
Billy Ray's vet recommends that he keep strength and flexibility via stretches and exercises for his topline. His kissing spines don't require any other treatment at this time. He is currently not on any grain, supplements or medications. He is barefoot and has amazing feet! Billy Ray has developing arthritis and may need winter or daily equioxx in the future if he is getting frequent exercise. He wears a fly mask to protect his eyes from UV rays and dust.
Billy Ray is eligible for AQHA registration but has not been registered. He has some of the greatest in his bloodline. Through his sire: Sonny Go Lucky, Win or Lose, Mr Bar None, Kings Pistol, King 234, Blondys Dude, Impressive, Quincy Dan & Mr Tailwind.
