Gorgeous Haflinger gelding for consideration. CJ is 11 years old, 13.2 hands tall. I’m in no rush to sell, I’m just not the best fit for him.
His perfect new home would be driving and trail riding in a group and at higher elevations with snow during the winter. He’s extremely sure footed in the hills and off the trail, living up to his name.
He’s got great confirmation, won his halter class at our county fair against very well bred Welsh ponies.... (read more)
I enjoy dressage, the little jump on the side and arena work, and having had an energetic, arena-enthusiastic Halflinger before, I got CJ, expecting the same, but he’s more on the calm side and just not into arena work. He is a wonderful little horse with a colorful personality and does great on trail rides and also has great driving potential.
It’s just not fair to keep comparing him. I’d love for him to have his very own person, a better match, who loves him, not just for his looks, but for the horse he is and who can develop his full potential.
He’s not fancy trained, but I have ridden him English as well as on a long rein out on the trail. He likes to be with his herd, I have ridden him out on the trail by himself as well though. He’s got more woah than go, is very sensitive to the riders energy, not to the leg. He loves a good gallop up the hill and is easy to slow back down. I was unable to get the purpose of arena work across to him, so thinking that’s not where he wants to be.
I have only long reined him once and have no experience in driving myself but he seemed to really enjoy it and did very well. I was easily able to handle and turn him in walk and trot. We have pulled some logs with him and he did great with that.
As a typical Haflinger he does better with a confident rider, not on green pasture, loves the snow, doesn’t like the heat. He lives on a track system with his herd here. He’s very very low maintenance, does great on all he can eat clean quality cow hay.
He has no health issues. Will be up to date on dentals and is adjusted to self trimming. He’s never had or needed shoes, but stands very well for the trimmer. He’s never in his life had to work hard, so his legs are fresh. I’m sure he’s still gonna be going well when he’s 30.
He is located in Grants Pass, Oregon. Please serious inquiries only. DM me with questions and a little info on what you’re looking for and I can send you my phone number to call.
