Duke is a flea bitten grey ,13 yr old Andalusian x Thoroughbred gelding. He stands somewhere between 16.2 and 16.3 hands tall. He is up to date on shots and has a current coggins test. No known health issues. Have never seen him be lame or limp. He has a silly personality and loves attention. He is very intelligent. He has great ground manners for the most part! He can be a little mouthy - he likes to grab his lead rope and hold it in his mouth or take the horse brush out of your hand when grooming!... (read more) He stands perfectly for the farrier and has wonderful hooves. Duke stays barefoot, and does not require shoes. I have never had any issues with his hooves and he is trimmed regularly. He loads easily onto our trailer (slant load). I am not sure how he would do with a straight load or two horse trailer.
Duke has only had one previous owner other than myself. I got him in Ocala, Florida where he was on thick green grass only and was not fed any grain. He has lost a little weight in the winter here (nothing crazy, but we have to feed hay and grain in winter to keep weight up), but I like to see him more filled out. Last photo most current. He is putting it back on nicely with grass coming in. I was told he was Parelli trained and also knows how to drive (have not tested the driving). He will come with hundreds of dollars with of Parelli training videos if new owner desires. Also have a Parelli western saddle that fits him well at an additional cost.
The reason I am regretfully finding him another home is because I am currently pregnant and have not been able to ride him and have time for him like I planned. I am afraid he will just be sitting in the pasture still even after I am able to ride again while taking care of a newborn. He is far too good of a horse to not be ridden or have a purpose.
When I first brought him and his pasture mate home, he was riding great. Walk, trot, canter with very easy transitions (direct rein only, does not neck rein). Not spooky. I could ride in just a halter and lead around the property. He did fantastic on trail rides and would cross anything pointed at him. He will stand perfectly still at a mounting block.
However, I have not ridden him in the past 4-5 months and unsure how he will be with the time off. Because of this reason I would recommend only experienced riders for Duke at this time. I will not be able to ride him for you first. With a refresher, I think he would be perfect for a teenager to bring along. He would likely excel at dressage or jumping. I would like for Duke and his pasture mate to go together if at all possible, they've been together for many years. She is a full bay TB mare (15.3h), also broke to ride, that I can give additional information on request.
