I bought this horse as a fun little project in October since all our horses are finished, shortly after in November we found out we are pregnant. I am now 14 weeks and have struggled with what to do with sweet Okie. I think what would be most fair to him would to find him his own person seeing's as he is green, and I won't be ready to ride again until fall.
He is UTD on coggins, vaccines and farrier.
I want to be up front about everything.... (read more) Okie sustained a significant injury in May of 2023, breaking his Ulna (the little bone) on his front right. He was cleared for work in Fall of 2023 and spent 30days at a trainer before I purchased him. His muscling was fairly unbalanced, and it could Cleary be seen at the trot but that has almost been evened out completely. I would say due to his past injury he will not make a hard stopping, hard turning performance horse. I want any potential buyers to be completely aware of what they are getting and that he may have limitations on his ability. He himself does not think he has any limitations and is one of the most playful horses in the pasture, him & our long yearling cruise through the pasture like they have nine lives. That includes hard stops, turns, play fighting, long sessions at a Gallop.
If he doesn't sale, he will be a trail horse, and used on the farm to push cattle and possibly lessons once he is finished here.
Riding - my favorite thing about this little horse is he loves praise for his good deeds and catches on so quick. He is green, I have had him walk/trot but not gotten a lope under saddle just yet. But I have not pushed him while working on evening out his muscles, and now being pregnant I am being very cautious. He is LAZY, so lazy I have put a beginner/intermediate on him to plot around the arena. He is quiet, and forgiving. It takes effort to get him to move forward. I mean real effort; he isn't going to run away with anyone. He is beginning to back, and I have ridden him in an O-ring and a loping hackamore. He has never offered to buck, rear, kick. I personally have not taken him out of our arena, and likely will not while pregnant but the previous owner had trail rode him. I have pictures of him crossing a creek etc. He is the kind that will make someone a really good solid mount with no funny business once finished. We run cattle and he has been exposed to them, and I believe shared a pasture with cattle before we bought him.
When I bought him, he was in a pasture with one other horse, and they seemed a little buddy sour while I loaded him. Nothing extravagant just a some talking. In our herd he isn't at all, In the arena I can work him while friends come over with their horses and he isn't too interested in the new company or anyone he is pastured with. He is pretty attentive to the handler and aiming to please. I have allowed him to roam freely while I work others in the arena, and he usually stays where he is left or wonders over to the edge to stand. I have a mixed herd and he fits in fine. bottom of the totem pole.
He is young and likes to explore tack, clothes etc. with his mouth. I have never had him 'bite' but anyone who gets him needs to be aware he is a jokester and likes to hold things in his mouth and be conscious of it. His personal favorite is his reins while he's hanging out (not under saddle I have a video I can send). He has a very funny personality and is VERY personable. He is a head over the fence waiting on you kind of guy. Comes when he sees you, follows your every move in the pasture. Easy to catch, stood great for the farrier, stands perfect to be groomed, saddled and mounted.
His only Con I have found so far is Fly Spray. I can spray detangler in his tail, and have in his mane, but especially if it is Infront of him he isn't having it. It's something we are working on as time and weather permits. He is not dangerous but wants away from the "flame thrower lol"
Price is in the low four figures. Just hoping to recoup my money and find him a good home. Open to reasonable offer for quick uncomplicated sale.
