Oscar is an all-around using horse that Absoultly ANYONE can ride. He has been used on a ranch to rope and doctor cattle, drag calves to the fire, sort pairs, roped cattle in the pasture, and push cattle onto trailers. He was also used as a lesson horse teaching kids to rope, he will rope both ends. We have been using him to teach a teenage how to ride. We never say that we have a bomb-proof horse, but if there is such a thing, Oscar comes as close as any horse can!!!... (read more)
Oscar rides with a loose one-hand neck rein, rides off leg pressure, and has a great backup, stop and side pass. He is very smooth at the walk, trot, and canter. He is used to heavy equipment (i.e. dump trucks, semis, airbrakes, horns, lawnmowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, backhoes, etc.) we have a construction company next door and he is used to all their sights and sounds.
Oscar will let you carry a flag, will let you open and close gates off of him, he has no problem walking across water/mud, down streams, through thick brush, he'll go up/down/across deep ditches and ravines, over fallen trees, through the woods with no spook. He is kid and dog friendly, with great ground manners, is easy to catch, and gets along with all of our other horses, mares, and gelding alike.
He stands very well for being saddled and bridled, bathed, groomed, while being sprayed for flies, for picking his feet, standing tied, for being mounted (from the ground or a mounting block), and for the vet/farrier. He loads and hauls very well. He is a been there, done that type of horse. Oscar is the type of horse that you can ride every day, once a week, or once a month, and he will ride the same, you do not have to warm him up.
Oscar will be a great prospect for; ranch rodeo, ranch sorting, team penning, trail riding, a pony horse, play days, barrels, poles, little britches, drill team, parades, trail horse competition, polo, western pleasure, walk-trot, lead line, a lesson horse, English, or just a great family horse. He would also make a great second horse for the city slicker family and friends that come to visit and want to ride. He is definitely Mr. Reliable!!! He will fit any job or type of horseman. Oscar is easy to love.
Oscar is a tall (15.3hh), fleabitten gray gelding, with a nice mane/forelock/tail, a nice head, a kind eye, a strong thick neck and shoulder, straight back, good withers with a wide chest and hip. He is very sweet and would be perfect for a child or an adult that needs a confidence builder that they can trust. He is a stout big bones boy.
