Ranger is a beautiful 11-year-old jet black mustang gelding. He stands at 14.2hh, but he's stout and has a solid conformation with strong feet. He received extensive training by the border patrol unit, and was with them for 5 years. This makes him a been there, done that kind of horse that has been in all kinds of country/terrain, and is extremely sure-footed.
He's not spooky out on the trail, keeps the same pace regardless if you're leaving the barn or coming back to the barn, and isn't fazed by much of anything.... (read more) He goes over bridges, teeter-totters, jumps, opens gates, side passes, will drag logs or roping dummies, and ropes the dummy.
We've used him for trail riding, obstacle courses, and we've been using him to help gather cows or do work around the ranch. He has helped sort cows in the alley, and has been used to rope off before. He picks up both leads easily, backs up, stops, and neck reins well. He stays quiet throughout whatever you're asking him to do, will give you speed if you ask for it, and will come back to you as soon as you want as well.
He would make an outstanding horse for a youth who is looking for a horse to go rope on, learn how to ride on, or go have fun on. He'd do well at gymkhana events as well. He'd make an outstanding trail or obstacle course horse for someone who is interested in that, as he is reliable and steady out on the trail and bold on the obstacles. He is a good horse for someone to build confidence on. He's been in all kinds of traffic and has been in parades before and been really quiet and calm in those situations.
He stands for the farrier, is up to date on shots, teeth, and feet. He does have a small scratch on his left eye, which has been checked out by a vet, and from which I have a vet report stating that upon the vet's inspection, he could not see anything indicating it affected his vision in any way, and that it most likely happened while going through brushy country during his time with the border patrol.
Feel free to get in touch for videos, photos or more information. Ranger would make an outstanding partner for a vast array of riders.
