Flat Out Cool - 16.1/16.2 6yo TB mare by Flat Out (Flatter).
Cool had her first introduction to jumps yesterday. She is such a class act. Just her second post track ride and she came out lovely on the flat. We did a super quick under 5 minute warm up partly because the heat and humidty are out of control and partly because she's so stinking perfect that she doesn't need anything more. The moment I pick up the reins on her she is soft and making a gorgeous shape.... (read more) She was obviously well ridden by her track connections to be so soft and correct in the contact. Sometimes I find the slightly older race horses (6/7/8 yo's) can be tougher to get the jaw loosened up and round simply because they've been racing for so long that it takes their bodies longer to remold, but that is certainly not the case with Cool. I had her in a thin egg butt snaffle today and don't think she looks terribly happy with it, for a horse as light as she is she's opening her mouth a little too much. Next time I'll go to the HS duo and see if that's better.
She was fabulous for her first introduction to jumps. Super willing and quick to learn. I thought she started understanding the form and wrap around shape nicely at the end. I love love love how she always lands in a quiet balanced canter. She also gave a few really nice auto changes. She's going to be fun and easy to continue bringing along.
I can't find anything I don't like about Cool. She is so pleasant to have around and work with. Someone is going to be so lucky to get her in their barn. Cool has no vices or injuries. Extremely well mannered for the farrier, on crossties, in a stall and out on big field turnout. I keep annoying myself and forgetting to stick her. I think she's 16.1 and a half, probably just under 16.2.
