Heres more info:
May of 2020 he ended up fighting a roundpen (someone left the gate open and he got stuck) and cut himself down to the bone.... (read more) He was put into stall rest and made a full recovery.
Unfortunately, the pain of doctoring his injuries made him lash out and he developed a kicking habit. We got a trainer for him in 2021 to help him work through it and the issue was 100% resolved. The trainer then started him under saddle and got 10ish rides on him. Not once did he buck. I got him back in July.
He had 3 months off and in October, without working with him, I stupidly saddled him up and hopped on. He bucked. That was the first time he ever bucked. I got back on immediately and he didn't offer to do it again, but I had taken a hard spill and so called the ride.
He wears saddles and won't buck. I've put grain bags on him with no reaction either. I haven't ridden him with a saddle since the incident.
In December I hopped on again with no warmup, in the pasture, bareback and he didn't react. So I stuck with bareback. I start most of my horses this way, and so stuck with it. We even did a 3 hour trail ride bareback in 2022 with two other riders. That was just before school started and the last time he has been ridden.
Reasons for selling:
Time, but also I'll be the first to admit after dealing with his injury our trust in eachother was completely broken and he scared me. I still get anxious around him but didn't want to admit it and was worried with his injury he'd end up dog food so didn't sell him. He's not the frightened horse I sent to the trainer, hes the horse I originally fell in love with. I know that. He came back the horse I originally got, the sweet puppy dog, but something in me is broken.
He's a big bear. He's young and full of potential, and not worked to death. I know now he's going to be a great horse for someone.
Kipfer Horses
Was around horses before I was born, ended up with four of my own during my childhood and high school years. Did my own training with the help of a pro.
