Proudly Introducing: Chanel
Chanel is a very special, elegant, easy going, and kind 4 year old mare. She stands 16h and is of undocumented heritage. Chanel was selected for my young sport horse program as a 2 year old and has been with me ever since.
Chanel has been slowly and correctly started under saddle. We waited until she was 4 to ever sit on her and she now has approximately 120 days of professional riding training- including the beginning of her show career.... (read more)
Chanel has the mind that every rider wants in a young horse with a wise-beyond-her-years old soul. She is confident, trusting, and a quick learner. She has been so, so easy to start under saddle.
Chanel has a lovely, correct way of going with three quality gaits. She has an active hind leg that shows a lot of promise for a dressage or eventing career. She has a soft mouth, takes the contact with any bit (currently in a rubber flexible mullen mouth), and is easy to shape onto the bridle. She has lovely uphill transitions, a floaty canter, and a settable trot.
Chanel recently went to her first show, competing at Training Level. My goal was to give her a positive experience and have no expectations, but she absolutely blew me away. She hacked the parking lot, visited the secretarys booth, and warmed up like she has been showing for years. She traveled with her pasture mate and wasn't the least bit concerned about where her friend was or what they might be doing. On top of everything she received two scores in the high 60s and got some really encouraging comments from the judge.
Chanel really is your relatable celebrity type horse. She can do all the fancy things, go to the best places, and get all dolled up, but she also gets down with real world stuff too. She regularly helps me move my pet cows around, trail rides, goes bareback and in a halter, and has never met another horse she didn't like. She has been introduced to fences and as she continues to mature she will be adding that to her regular cross-training routine with eyes on some horse trials in her future.
There isn't too much you can fault Chanel on. She is barefoot, eats hay and a ration balancer, doesn't need supplements, doesn't need any prep for shows or leaving the farm, she is good for the farrier, good for the vet, and gets on the trailer every time. She has never reared, bucked, or taken off with me. She is fearless and doesn't shy from cars, dogs, water, or anything she has been faced with.
If I could, I would continue up the levels with her, but sadly my own show horses have been getting neglected and she is ready for her new person. She will continue in training and her value will increase over time to reflect that. Currently, however, she is in the ideal range for the champagne taste, beer budget types.
