Doesn't Make Cents is a 5yo 15.3 TB gelding by Goldencents (Into Mischief).
I love the compact uphill build of Cents. He gives a super sporty feel. I always prefer to have an uphill horse I need to teach to stretch down then a downhill horse who needs to come up. He'll be a fantastic jumper with the climb in his canter. The ride video is of Cents' second ride. Our first ride got interrupted shortly after getting started so we did a redo the next day.... (read more) Cents is figuring out the contact nicely. He is good at the mounting block. He's not quite sure about how to pick up the left lead yet, that will sort itself out naturally as he gets straighter, so we got it through a change. He's a really nice type for someone wanting a sporthorse with a great brain to bring along.
Cents has been here for about a week now and settled into post track life nicely. He's eating well and I'm hoping he'll pact on a few more pounds quickly. He was excellent for the farrier and has great feet. His legs are totally clean and he has no injuries. He is a very mild cribber. He's been here for a week and I've seen him crib in a stall once. He stands on crossties for grooming, bathing, mane pulling, clippers and everything else.

Cents had his 3rd ride in the big field today and he was such a good boy about taking it all in. It's a big ask to have cars whizzing by and be in such a wide open space so far away from the barn and all the other horses. I'm really proud of him for handling all the things. Cents makes a beautiful package when he puts all the parts together. I love how his neck is set and he has a great understepping hind leg. His canter is my favorite part with such a nice uphill climb. I really think he is going to be a super good jumper. Somehow I've managed to buy more horses then I have room for lol I'm not sure how this happens :) I would love for Cents to find his human. He's priced very reasonably.

Cents had a super jump school yesterday. He has good natural form/instincts and all the scope anyone could want. He's going to be powerhouse jumper as he develops. He was brave to everything in my ring. What I appreciated most was how he always came back around and jumped better after he had an awkward fence or made a mistake. Bloopers are necessary and unavoidable with green horses. I always want to see how they react or change their strategy when they come back around the next time. Cents did not jump everything perfectly (nor would I expect him to) but always came back around and did it better or at least tried something different, a good indication that he's processing and trying to understand the concept. I do think people get caught up in the weeds a bit over what very talented but also very young/green horses' first jump schools should look like. They're often not pretty. I think back to starting my personal horse over fences and he was such a scaredy cat and jumped so awkwardly but he has a climbing uphill canter so even though it took half a year once he got with the program it was 100% worth the wait. All we can really assess at this stage is their brain and willingness. Cents is going to make a lovely jumper for someone.

Cents got a little break for an abscess and started back up into work about a week ago. I actually think the break ended up being just what his brain needed. He's come back into work so much more relaxed. Cents is such a gentleman and simple restart. He so much steadier and through in the contact. He's working on getting lateral. Every horse has a shoulder they tend to lean on more then the other and for Cents it's the left shoulder, so the right is his easier direction. To the left he's learning some leg yield and shoulder in steps to work on straightneing out that shoulder. He needs to spend a lot of time there in the walk and trot and then the canter will resolve itself as a result. To the right I'm so happy with his canter work where I've started sitting which asks for more strength through the back and hind end. This is all completely normal green horse progress, nothing complicated happening here! Cents has no injuries and clean straight legs. He is a cribber and is priced super reasonably.
