2012 Sorrel TB 16 hand Gelding
Rides English and Western~ Show prospect!
John John is an 11 yr old, 16 hand gelding that has a lot of bone and substance to him. He is very good natured, well mannered and easy to get along with. He has no vices stalled or when turned out, and has been great to work with while he has been in our barn. We have enjoyed him out on the trails, in the pastures and he is really riding great in the arena.... (read more) He has tons of potential and we really would like to see him in the show ring, but he is a fantastic trail horse as well and would love that lifestyle just as much.
These past several months we have been focusing on flat work (Hunter Under Saddle, english pleasure), and he recently has starting working on ground poles and crossrails. He shows great promise to become a nice show prospect or even an eventing horse. We will be hauling him this summer to schooling shows and open shows, until he finds his new home. He understands leg pressure, flexing and giving to bit pressure, takes his leads, and working on collection. He doesnt get frustrated or bored in the arena and I think he could also be a nice asset to a lesson program, especially those needing safe training horses.
We normally end all our rides with relaxing hacks throughout the pastures, and some days we just spend the whole ride exercising and cantering through the fields. He rides good in the pastures alone or with groups of horses. We haven’t had the opportunity to have him on any solo trail rides, but has been trail rode and camped with as few as 2 horses and groups as large as 20. He has not been spooky or reactive on the trails, goes right thru water and mud, handles steep and rough terrain with no issues. Does not rush to the front of the line. Stands quietly as the hitch rails overnight.
John John has a great personality and seems to be people oriented. He is not hard to catch in the pastures when turned out and is one to settle in a routine very quickly. He is currently stalled but loves his turn out. We try to ride or give him turn out time daily. He goes out in the pasture with a mixed herd and gets along good with mares and geldings. In our setting he has been mid level in the pecking order and does not instigate or cause problems. He has no vices in the stall, and has been easy for my employees to care for. He has not been a hard keeper and does not require any special requirements to keep his weight up. He has great feet and is currently shod on the front, but all winter was rode and kept barefoot with no issues. He has been sound and is healthy and up to date on dental, farrier, spring vaccinations, and worming. He loads and hauls good.
John John should match well with several different types of riders. He is suitable for advanced beginners and up. His very willing demeanor allows him to be a great fit for amateur or youth riders that do their training mostly at home or haul to lessons for guidance, or for the rider who enjoys riding out in the pastures or on the trails.
