Gracie is a wonderful girl Who is looking for forever home. She would be an ideal situation for somebody looking to trail ride or do some light ringwork.
Little Girl (LG) Gracie (reg. Golden River Girl) 8 yo (2014) seal bay STB pacer, came to Live & Let Live Farm as an owner surrender at age 3 due to locking patellas and failure to train in harness or under saddle. The owner had made three attempts to have her trained in harness, all short-lived, so she never really acquired the pacing gaits.... (read more) During that time a variety of procedures (splice, blister, repeat splice) were attempted to fix the stifle ligaments without success.
At LLLF we took a very conservative approach with the belief she had years to maturity and would hopefully grow out of it. She had chiro, massage, Masterson bodywork, PT stifle program, red light laser, herbs & supplements, and fulltime turnout to enable her to move as needed. The condition only became worse, she was lame in paddock, locking with every other step.
In Fall 2020, we had Gracie evaluated by Dr. Eric Swinebroad, who thoroughly imaged and examined her, simultaneously consulting with colleagues at Tufts and Beverly, MA. All concurred she would likely benefit from bilateral desmotomies since she had clearly failed conservative treatments. This was accomplished in May 2021 and she walked away from the surgery without a hitch! Following the surgery she was confined to a small enclosure, gradually increasing in size over several months. She was hand-walked daily by faithful LLLF volunteers, appearing sound in this flatwork. She was repatriated with her herdmates in Oct. 2021 and lived in outside turnout all last winter, continuing to look sound. Also in September/Oct she began some light foundational training for riding, carrying a rider a handful of times without any difficulties.
This spring she came to Century Farm to begin a fulltime training program to start her under saddle with Danielle Gabree.
