“Patron” is an 8 year old quarter horse gelding. Everyone wants COLOR, and when you want color, 9 out of 10 times, you want a buckskin!
.
This guy had been used on the feedlot down south. He has roped calves and is not a newcomer to a pen. If you are looking for one to put on about 9 hours, through 4 creeks, 100 pairs, and then put him away to be saddled up and ready for the next day, that is him.... (read more)
.
He rides inside the arena, out in the field, or down the road. We have put him through our wringer: cats, dogs, machinery, tarps, balls, cattle, and traffic. He has been down hills, crossed water, and ridden solo on the trail.
.
The guy has NOT done a wrong or dangerous thing - he has not EVER bucked with someone under saddle, he will not rear, he will not pull back and dangerously break everything around you, but - he IS quirky, I think?
.
What exactly does "quirky" mean? Why do I say, I THINK he is quirky? Is that word vague or negative? Well, for starters, he was sold to me as “extremely gentle, anybody can ride him” - when he stepped off the trailer on day one, he huffed and puffed and acted as if he was going to blow the little pigs house down. I thought I was duped.
.
Come back to him a week later - he is QUIET. Stands quiet. Saddles quiet. Comes in the barn quiet. Maybe he just had to settle into his new environment? I say this, because if somebody stepped him off the trailer with the same impression I got, you’d say “WHAT did you send me, and WHY did you dirty dog trader me”. He is one in which I could maybe understand why first impressions matter.
.
Under saddle, he will look twice at some new things, but he has never acted wrong over it. He blows his nose and moves on. I will say he would make a perfect cowboy's horse - NOT because he needs a firm hand, or because he has "vices" that should scare anyone off. If you are someone who KNOWS how a working horse can act, and you're confident to move around him until he settles in, get past it and you will actually really, really like this guy.
I mean it when I say someone will find this guy and never let him go. You are welcome to call with any questions regarding him, we want him to find the perfect fit!

We can help arrange shipping ANYWHERE for the winning bidder!
