I'm writing this the day after the derby but I'm still smiling ear to ear over how impressive Robbie was for his first run around a BN course at the MDHT derby cross. I was warming up and another rider, also definitely on a greener horse, looked at me and said "this is a BN olympics course, don't you think?" and yea I agree! It was super legit! Robbie took it all in stride and learned a ton as he went around.... (read more) In the warm up period he was so cool calm and composed that he was giving other horses leads into the water which is hilarious as that's only the second time he's ever seen water :) Other horses buzzing all around him, no problem at all. He wants to take it nice and easy, one thing at a time.

Loch Moy is a pretty huge environment for a green horse. The derby consists of starting with a SJ course in the top arena that evolves into a xc course as you wrap your way around their 3 massive competition arenas which includes ditches and water. Not only did Robbie jump a clean clear round but what's most impressive to me is the manner in which he did it. I'm so thankful to Maya Kuntze for videoing the middle arena part of our course because you can see how rideable and composed he is in the midst of it all.

I took Robbie and my personal horse and no help lol that means he has to be good for loading, hauling, standing solo on the trailer, tying at the trailer, mounting, all of it is so important when you don't have an extra set of hands to help! Robbie is fabulous for all of those things.
