Nistel
14.2 H Gelding
Coming 5 year old.
Icelandic/Rocky Mountain cross. DNA tested.
Up to date on shots, rabies, worming, coggins, and feet.
Nistel is a playful, interactive, curious, confident gelding. He learns quickly. Good with the vet. Ties and trailers well. Great feet. Barefoot. Working on training foot manners but has been on a consistent trim schedule. Very easy keeper. He does well in a stall attached to run for 24/7 turnout, or would do well with a run-in and 24/7 turnout.... (read more)
He was lightly started as a 3 year old, had several rides on him when he was 4 that included camping for 3 days at Otter Creek with his previous owner.
I rode him twice before buying. Both times he was ridden in a hackamore. On my first ride we were passed by moving vehicles and encountered people, dogs, and ATVs. Nothing fazed him. On the second ride, we trailered off site to trail ride. He was calm and didn't mind horses leaving him at the trailhead. I was blown away by how grounded he was for a 4 year old.
Nistel is sound but needs some slow steady conditioning due to an extended period of stall rest. Unfortunately, he sustained a small fracture to the tiny proximal tip of his left hind lateral splint bone. The injury occurred after my other gelding kicked Nistel while they were turned out together on pasture. Nistel had surgery to remove the small bone fragment in October, recovered well from the injury, and was cleared for return to work and full pasture turnout in late November.
Nistel has a high play drive and would thrive with other horses who are also interested in play. In his previous home he lived outside 24/7 with 4 other horses. I have had a difficult time turning him out with my two geldings who are both not interested in engaging with him. My hope is to find him a home where he can be turned out with other horses and an owner willing to support his exuberance rather than punish him for it. He will be a fun project and an excellent trail riding horse for the right person. Not a beginner horse. Still needs to gain experience going out alone and more training under saddle. If I had the right set up for him and more free time I would keep him.
Vet records available to serious inquiries. Farrier willing to discuss feet if requested.
