“Mango Man” is 6 year old TB gelding 16.1h.
Purchased him as yearling and did all the breaking and training ourselves. Our plan was to race him as a three year old but we became really busy with our move across the states. We didn’t enter him until he was 4 and he just wasn’t the caliber of racehorse we were hoping for. Only raced 3 times.
I fox hunted him and showed him in jumpers before he ever ran.... (read more) Hunted with Cheshire in 2nd field an entire season 2x every week. It was the first season hunting for us both.
He’s always been forgiving and doesn’t hold a grudge. Very willing personable horse. He’s super easy never any bad vices from day one riding although forward. Trustworthy and predictable. Sweet disposition.
This past year we’ve been showing at local shows 2’6”-3’ . He’s been to hunter paces, paper chases, hunter trials, clinics, etc. Great scope and quick as a cat getting those tight turns.
Trailers well and ties to trailer as well as cross ties. Good alone. Lives in 12 hours and out 12 hours. He does require a lot of groceries. Gets along with anyone in the herd. Good over water. Has handled some tough crossings out hunting. I think he would be well suited for a confident amateur looking for a super talented horse on a budget. I also think he would excel in a professional program. Does need a rider with good hands and experience rating a horse. He is not a runaway by any means but probably not the horse to transition off of a pony. Mango is well versed on the flat. He bends, moves his shoulders, and collects into the bit .He prefers his rider to ride him to the jump and control his rhythm. Goes over roll tops, logs, barrels, straw, walls, etc. Changes leads. We’ve never had any health concerns or lameness issues with him. Great feet. Barefoot now and competes like that. Needs front shoes when hunting. After his last start on the track we noticed a splint so we gave him some time off to be safe. Was never lame on it. Did develop a splint callous which has not been an issue . He’s never been injected or on any type of medication regimen. A really awesome young horse. We’ve done a lot with him for his age and he’s took it all in stride and held up to it fabulously.
