Tess (JC: Hoosessential) has been with me since March. She is a 2012 mare by Brave 'N Away out of a Whitney Tower mare. She was just 4 races shy of war horse status when she fractured a sesamoid and had to take a break. She was off for about 18 months to rehab before I purchased her.
Tess is my spirit animal. She is the friend who will 100% go to spin class with you if you ask, but when the instructor says to turn up the dial, she will "accidentally" turn it the wrong way (aka make it easier).... (read more) She is LAZY. We're talking KICK ride. I've had to pony kick her a few times myself!
On a whim, I had my ten-year-old niece, who is a beginner competing in local poles classes, hop on Tess while she visited. They absolutely CLICKED! I think I've found Tess's calling as a school horse or little girl's cross rails pony! She would be more than happy to just trot along for a few laps and then wrap it up with some snuggles.
On the other hand, Tess does move very well, so she does have the potential to do more if someone can find her go button!
Tess loads, hauls, bathes, grooms, ties, etc all like a champ. The only thing that she has had an issue with is the clippers, but we have made progress during her time with me.
Tess is currently barefoot. She has never had an off day for me, even with a couple of abscesses that have popped out. I never even knew about them because she never acted sore. From everything I have experienced with her, the healed sesamoid does NOT seem to bother her at all. I have recent x-rays for any interested parties. Of course, PPE is welcome at buyer's expense.
This girl is truly something special. I would feel comfortable with her going to a strong riding JR at this point, or an advanced beginner working VERY closely with a trainer, as her canter still needs finished. She is still green over jumps, as well.
