Pumpkin Spice Christine
May 6, 2017, 15.2HH
OTTB Retired after just 9 starts.
Pumpkin is for sure a unicorn in training! She is calm and quiet, this little mare’s brain is 100% all there. Mindfully and quietly restarted this spring with a month of long line ground training with an emphasis on establishing trust and promoting her calm nature as she transitioned from racehorse to sporthorse. She has now been under saddle for the past five weeks and has continued to impress us with her willingness to work through a variety of environmental conditions that Vermont has to offer: sunny today, snow tomorrow, with a touch of thunder on Thursday!... (read more) Not Spooky! We have yet to find anything that upsets her.
At 15.2 she is a pocket rocket, but is much more pocket than rocket! A very approachable size for a younger rider or smaller framed adult. Though she is green, she would make a suitable mount for an intermediate young rider with a trainer experienced in working with young horses.
During her month of ground training we introduced cavalettis, small cross-rails, and walks out in the pasture. As we have transitioned to under saddle work we have done all of the same. She willingly trots over anything in front of her, though we have not pushed for jumping too much as she is only just 4, and we are continuing to emphasize the calm nature of the new career. There is no reason that Pumpkin couldn’t excel in any field; Junior Hunters, Equitation, or Eventing(as she seems unflappable and so willing).
Good for everything! Stands quietly for shoeing(front shoes), grooming, mane pulling, bathing, etc. Good around dogs, chickens, cats, and even deer and turkeys in the field.
She is located in Southeastern Vermont, close to I-91. Serious inquiries only, no first time horse owners. High fours.
