2014 APHA registered mare.
15.2-3 and 1100#
Lelu has been with us for almost 4 years. We bought her as a 3 yr old.
She is broke but would not recommend for a child or beginner because she is big and does have a motor.
Prior to coming to us, she was used for ranch work/cattle work only and that is honestly where she probably needs to be used. She has been worked on the pattern but it is not her favorite thing to do. She is stout enough to drag anything you dally to her.... (read more) She will NOT tolerate a heavy handed rider or a curb chain that is too tight.
She is a DOMINANT mare and she IS mare-ish. We have not worked cattle on her but we have swung a rope off of her. She will watch cows all day long. She has been hauled minimally so she is still watchy away from home.
Prior to coming to us she clipped the bulb on her right front and did it again about 2 years after we got her. It does NOT bother her. If you shoe her all the way around, she has to wear bell boots on the front..
She has a nice smooth walk and trot but her lope is rougher than going over a cattle guard on a bicycle. She doesn't collect on her lope well at all and I feel it's due more to the fact that she's lazy and would rather walk or eat.
She loads without issue and hauls well. She will stand for the farrier unless your farrier is a jerk and then she will remind him/her that she is a little bigger than they are.
Coggins is current. Would make a phenomenal broodmare.
