Lady of Justice, DOB 2/28/2018 is a 15.3 gorgeously built dark bay filly. Because of Lady’s age she will mature to a little above 16 hh. Once she is done growing she will be a wide and sturdy ottb, she already has the wide frame on her delicate little frame. Lady has been retired since Jan 10 2021, and went to her first show Jan 16 2021, coming in reserve champion in Adult Pleasure on the flat.
Lady has a good solid brain that only needs shown something once before she’s will tackle it head on.... (read more) She is inquisitive and analytical of every situation she is put in.
Lady’s personality can be summed up by her favorite activity, playing dead. She will lay flat out in the sun, and not move anything but her ear. If you listen carefully you can hear her snoring gently. When I yell for her, she takes a minute to decide if she will respond, then look at me as if saying “I’m trying to nap here!!!” And go right back to sleep without a care in the world. Sometimes she runs with the herd for a few minutes before sunning herself, but that requires too much effort.
We put Lady on the back burner to let her grown and enjoy life, so Lady has only been ridden 9 times since retiring, never needing lunged first, sometimes for weeks in between. Just recently we started working her under saddle through trot and canter pole grids where she has a blast and wants to jump them at first. When hacking in the arena she tries to steer to the jumps. She stands to mount most of the time.
Lady has spent the last 3 months relaxing, snuggling, begging for treats, growing, trail riding, and testing her limits in the round pen. She has been through a jump chute, where she didn’t want to stop once she got the hang of what I was asking. She’s been lunged with grain bags attached to her head tail and surcingle, usually ground ties to tack up and groom, bathes, loads, and sometimes ties.
I say sometimes and usually because SHE IS A BABY. Sometimes her baby brain kicks in, she does something silly, and then looks around like Earkle going “Did I do thaaaat?”. Lady doesn’t like chains on lead ropes, and really dislikes whips. Lady’s worst quirk is she is SMART! And LAZY! So, she will test you to see what she can get away with and see if she can outsmart you. If you coddle her she plays you like a fiddle. If you ignore her she gives in and keeps going.
What does all of this mean? It means that Lady is AWESOME but please do not contact me asking if this super green filly is an appropriate match for your inexperienced child or self. This girl needs a CONFIDENT and patient rider that is either used to baby brains and bringing young ones along, or someone who has a trainer that is experienced with greenies. She needs a balanced rider so she doesn’t get confused in her training. She is not a lesson horse, she is green. Will she be? Maybe eventually. Not not for the next few years.
If you have any questions about her suitability please feel free to contact the Highland Equine Facebook page (link below) with question, and please feel free to have your TRAINER contact me me.
