“Moon” is a 2009 OTTB gelding who stands 16.3hh. Moon is a WAR horse with 61 starts in his 7 year racing career- yet he still retired SOUND. He is a VERY impressive boy. Moon is all class and is a great ride- he is a SPUR ride. He has an excellent brain and never stops trying his heart out. Moon has been with us since his last race in 2017. I cannot tell you how much we love this guy. He is not the cuddliest horse in the barn, but he really does love to work and enjoys his people.... (read more) Moon is suitable for a confident youth or adult amateur but talented enough for pro. He has been brought along and ridden by his teenage owner. Unfortunately, his owner didn’t have much interest in shows so Moon doesn’t have much of a record- his price reflects lack of showing. Don’t let that fool you, he is ready to go and win. This guy is special. His flat work is amazing and his scope is just wow. Moon has been to multiple schooling shows sporadically, schooled TONS of XC (through training and the occasional prelim obstacles), does loads of trail rides on and off property, and even fox hunts! This guy is the one I always regret not keeping for myself. Even though Moon LOVES to work, he is also completely fine with being left to his own devices for weeks or months and then going straight back into work. I believe he LOVES to really have a job, but he is okay with regular work or he can sit and wait and it will be like you never stopped.
On the ground, Moon is polite, and has manners (which he was lacking when he first came off the track. He was never dangerous, just didn’t really have any care about if he walked through you or not. He now is very easy and manageable. Moon stands in cross ties, tied to the trailer, or in his stall, he stands for farrier and vet and is easy to bathe and groom/ tack. He is very easy to catch in the field and will come when whistled for. In the stall especially at feeding time Moon likes to make a lot of angry faces, we just laugh and ignore him. If agitated and you are in reach he might take a bite. Other than that he is easy. We have worked a lot over the years with his attitude on the ground and he has really come a long way, I do not know that he will ever stop with the angry faces during meal times, but that seems to be such a small and manageable thing we have let it be.
Moon is great under saddle, he is super athletic and has an amazing gallop. We ride him in spurs. Moon has a wonderful natural balance and carriage. Honestly I could go on and on about this horse, but I won’t. Please do not hesitate to call, email, or text with any further questions!
